I have a medical product site that has a product that would seem gross and hilarious to those that don't need it. This site is picked up about every couple of months by some of the 'Funny Pages' review sites, especially some German ones. When this happens, oh boy the traffic goes through the roof. I mean 100m uniques in a day vs. 50 normally.
If you would think 100m uniques and all those associated clicks would be great for my AdSense bottom line you would be wrong. When this happens my entire account goes in to the basement until that traffic dies down then the AS dollars come back. Usually in about a week form the traffic blast.
I've also recently had a well-known and respected web development blog post one of my sites and the traffic went way, way up. Guess what, that was actually related traffic and my overall AdSense dollars went way up.
The quality of incomming traffic I believe is a factor.
YPN = thumbs up!
The off-topic ads have returned today resulting in a poor CTR once again. At this time I have one adblock displaying site related ads (food/cooking), and one adblock & one adlinks unit displaying landscaping/gardening ads. Where is the logic in that? It makes no sense to me and it sure isn't contextual.
Also, it is highly annoying to see ads from my location in northern Nevada for businesses in southern California. If I were just a normal visitor from this area, what interest could I possibly have in those ads? None. None whatsoever.
The mediabot needs an overhaul ASAP.
