referral button and related accounts

Most people (who have read previous threads) will know that people can be banned for having a "related account" i.e. they haven't actually done anything wrong themselves but they know (or indeed google believes) that they are related in some way to a nefarious individual.

Say you refer a new adsense publisher. Does G then believe that you are a related account and if they get "busted" you will also?

Are there any checks/guarantees (other than the much vaunted and impeachable algo)?

This is a topic where a word from ASA would be very valuable. I for one won't put a referral button on any of my sites before we know the answer to this.

I don't think they will be 'related' in the same way though, google aren't that dumb. They know we can't vouch for our visitors.

I would like to agree but when you are dealing with an algo rather than a real person who knows what happens. Also, what happens if you refer, say three people and two subsequently get banned? Or refer 5 and 3 get banned etc etc.

Hi all -

Just wanted to provide some reassurance. Publishers won't be negatively affected if their referrals are terminated. However, if a referral is terminated it will not be counted as a successful referral or paid out.

Of course, publishers who attempt to create duplicate accounts to refer themselves will be subject to termination in accordance with program policies ([google.com ]).
