Bought Expired Domain, Put Up Adsense Then Account Disabled

I have been with adsense since Jan 2005 and had 10 websites with ads. Recently (3 weeks ago) I bought an expired domain and setup the website with Adsense ads, just got my email saying that my account was disabled ... "Your AdSense account was found to be related to an account previously disabled for invalid click activity and we have therefore disabled your account."

I emailed Google and they say they cannot reactivate the account because I did'nt follow their TOS. What do I do now?

Use one of the dozens of other options to monetize your sites. You are done with Adsense by the sounds of it.

If you can prove to adsense that you did not violate any TOS you may be able to get reinstated, but the odds are not in your favor.

Their terms of service say you can't buy an expired domain?

I would send the domain registration emails, then follow up with a letter on paper. And in the meantime I'd deploy Chitika.

Most likely, when Google do come crawling back you won't want them anyway.

Are you SURE the reason was the expired domain? I register expired domains a lot as well, are they only nailing the small guys when it comes to this?

I'm sure it was the expired domain. I never added any domains since January. Warning to all domain purchasers, the domain I bought probably had a bad reputation with Google. It really is frustrating when one BAD domain can cancel your whole account.

the previous owner had a real estate website. i checked archive.org to make sure it was'nt a spam site. THis was a legitimate website that just did'nt renew. That's why i decided to purchase and setup ads.

Was the site you put up on the recently purchased expired domain "made for adsense" or is it a truly useful site.

If the page (or pages) you put up were reviewed by an actual Google employee and they decided that the only reason you put those pages up were to serve adsense ads then that was your TOS violation and why you were banned.

Do any of your other sites fall under the "made for adsense" blanket?

The email google sent me said, "Your AdSense account was found to be related to an account previously disabled for invalid click activity and we have therefore disabled your account."

My assumption is that the previous owner may have put up Adsense and then got his account disabled and decided not to renew his domain. I cannot prove this.

no, my website was not "made for adsense".

Explain what you did and what you suspect happened and provide as much detail and backup as possible. People have gotten unbanned for such things before after an investigation.

I suggest ANYONE who buys an expired domain contact google and ask them about the specific domain before adding adsense ads to it.

tonyynot, has this affected your rankings in SERPs at all or is only Adsense that has been affected?
Just wondering if this means that a webmaster could be punished for buying a domain that had previously been penalised or banned.

Google have records of domains that expire. They use this information in their search algorithm. If that's really your only connection to a previously disabled account, then you should be able to explain it to them and get reinstated.

Having said that, if they already wrote back to you and said you have violated their TOS, then maybe you have TWO problems. Did you put up a real website on that domain, or just a one-pager with pretty much just ads?

I have exactly the same problem!
My domain name is <snip> and i do nothing wrong with Adsense except that i buy some website in DMOZ and yahoo directory to increase my popularity! now they say to me that my account is related to an account previously disabled
for invalid click activity... I m disgusted because it's completely unfair! I don't know what to do now :(

what is the best competitor of google adsense?

Why anyone would ever put AdSense anywhere they weren't 100% sure about, like old domains expired or otherwise, without consulting Google FIRST is beyond me.

Ever consider the reason the domain was abandoned or sold in the first place was because it was banned from Google AdSense and they couldn't make any more money from it?

What an unusual gift, a domain name. Why, thank you!

Since you were trying to game Google Search, it's easy to see why AdSense might not have had much sympathy.

I'm a little unclear as to something: Do you have to put AS on the dirty domain name to raise a flag with your AS account, or does just the fact of domain name ownership (even though you don't have AS ads on the dirty domain name) cause a problem?

Because, now twice in my internet history, I have purchased domain names that were free and clear (I wasn't hovering to wait for them to go free) only to learn later they were previously registered, one because I now occasionally receive email meant for the old addresses at the domain, and the other because you can see the previous site in the Internet Wayback Machine.

If you are desirous of a used domain name, can you check with AS to find out before-hand if it won't get you banned?

Chrisweg: Being a net-nerd, I thought it would be cool to give my brother his name's domain name for his birthday. Even though I arranged hosting it and everything, he never used it and I eventually let it lapse...

10 sites?! i can't keep up with 1 site, never mind me having ten of them! that's what happens when you run too many sites, you loose track of which one cause the violation!

I not agree the way google adsense work! They cut suddenly their adsense service, without any notice before closing the account and without any explanation! I spend some money to put adsense in my website (lot of design), and the minimum i ask if some probleme happen in my partnership is to talk to me before doing strong action!

Now i really don't know what to do... i waiting YPN (yahoo), and hope it will be available before the end of THIS year...

I can only suggest to webmaster to take care about google adsense, because if you become depandent of it, you can fall from very high when they will suddenly close you account! (For exemple if i understand well i can run your adsense code on my desactivated website to close your account FOR EVER ... i can do that for my competitor for exemple!)

Below the answer i gave to Google:

Dear Google Adsense,

We have no relationship with previously disabled account for invalid click activity. It's not an personal account, it's a corporate account for my company that was build in January 2005 (French SARL)! All the payment need to be made to the name of my company. We deal some domain name that was registered in DMoz. After your message i close all the relationship with these website.

Our partnership become few month ago without any probleme still you thinking that we are in relationship with a previously account
disabled for invalid click activity.

Can you take in account that we was a good adsense partner? Also we have an Adword account that we use without any probleme!

Can you understand that i can't plan to do some invalid activity, because in this way i will loose more money that i plan to win if you close my account!

Can you just look our website and confirm that lot of job are done in it to integrate your adsense programe?

It's absolutely a nightmare for me, because i do nothing wrong with google and now i m alone! It's absolutely unfair for me!

I receive no answer still now ...........

sure i can create 1000 websites! maybe all automated! certainly u can't update them all daily with decent content unless u have other people working for you.

i bet most of the people who run multi sites only build them for ads.. unless they are crappy 1 page sites there is no way 1 person can update them daily with new content.

anyway, i rather have 1 huge site that gets massive traffic than 100 websites with 2 visitors a day.

I didn't see this thread earlier and I find the OP very interesting. As far as I can remember this is the first time anyone has mentioned being banned for putting Adsense on a domain that was on a previously banned account. If he's er, got some facts mixed up.... there's some other reason for the ban.

But if you take his quote at face value, which I'm inclined to do, Google is actually doing something they never did before. As many of you know I see a lot of sites being bought and sold. On several occassions people (including myself) have written to Google with the domain name of an intended purchase and they've replied that it may have been banned in the past but we can put our Adsense code on provided the site stays within the TOS at all times.

Given that they know about expired domains I believe there are three issues that could cause a ban in this situation

1. The site now put up on the domain violates Adsense TOS (and they used the "previously banned account" as an excuse to ban again)
2. Google knows something connecting the current owner with the previous owner.
3.Google screwed up and will reinstate the account if you present your case well. (Despite some of my recent posts I do think they are a reasonable lot)

try sticky mailing adsenseadvisor on this forum, he has reinstated an account I know of that was suspended due to a minor, unwitting and innocent violation.

If thats all it is dont worry.

It's been discussed a few times that people buying sites that have been banned after putting AdSense on the pages of a previously banned site. This case was just an expired domain name but I think the general concensus is once a domain is banned, it's banned, and you should always confer with Google before installing AdSense on a domain that has not been under your control.

Your AdSense account was found to be related to an account previously disabled for invalid click activity and we have therefore disabled your account."

Perhaps I missed this but how EXACTLY does the much vaunted algo know who is related to who. I was under the impression that only a birth certificate can tell who is related to who, or government census figures or of course the CIA, FBI, MI 6 etc etc. Google has an arrogance which is unsurpassed in telling people who they are, what they are and now who they are related to.
