Very interesting viral post on twitter about Google stands in violation of most of it's own content policies.

[x.com...]

I'd like to report a spammer called "AI Overviews"

It's coming up #1 for a ton of queries & violates all these Google policies:

-No first-hand experience
-Uses extensive automation
-No expertise
-Primarily summarizes what others have written

Excellent, the hypocritical do as I say, not as I do!

To be honest, I applaud Nate for the tweet because he's right. The AI responses do exactly what Google actually prohibits.

But wait! The algo is NEVER WRONG. Don't believe your lying eyes!

(whispers in the g back rooms: Gotta do something quick! They're catching on! Dang it, we thought we had more time! Roll out another update to make'em crazy! Just ignore it. Can't prove a dang thing. But, but, but, the Emperor Actually Has No Clothes!)

It’s almost poetic. Google bans what it now mass-produces. If this isn’t the “original sin” of AI search, I don’t know what is.

My Take on AI

Personally I am AMAZED that people really don't SEE the Obvious!

THINK about it - AI - the first word is ARTIFICIAL, and then they call it Intelligence.
And the process produces results that: They Don't Know - what they Don't Know (I think we call this an Endless Loop, but they relabeled it Hallucinations)

Check this out:

We used to call AI overviews "spun content" up until only a few years ago and if you placed "spun content" on your website you were demoted/banned by google from rankings from 1999 to 2024. Ironically now because Google can spin content on the fly in real time they think its fine and mark it up as "AI" to mitigate litigation, its spun content from other sources, nothing more.

Maybe AI stands for artificial infringement?!

I just see AIOs as an extension of featured snippets. Google have been wanting to include the answers directly in the serps for years, but there was a limit as to how much of the publishers' content they could reproduce without drawing complaints. Now they can hover it all up and spin it through their machine a few times (because that's basically all it is - a glorified article spinner), and they're immune from people complaining about it.
