Interesting video, thanks Brett.

I took the decision many years back to not install Chrome on certain machines when the tracking became general knowledge.

I've noticed that after I visit a new webpage in chrome, google bot is sure to follow very soon after. It makes sense for them to gather data, but I think most people would prefer them not to. Personally I stopped using chrome a long time ago and have tried to de google my life as much as I can.

Well well well - whodathunkit
If you've ever written software, and people have installed it on their personal (PC) devices (ex: Chrome), you'd realize they can know you very well, follow and record your every interaction with their software (ex: Chrome), and 'may' profit from this knowledge - all without you knowing.
Forget the smoke screen 3rd party cookies, Google only needs cookies for mugs who don't use Chrome. Happy days. 1984

I said that before two or 3 years that google know all about us, almost number of our clothes .
What you talking near your phone is recording too, microphone working in background, I recognized that few times, did you ever talk about something and after saw advertising about on net?
Some of my friends discovered that too

You know that even the "good guys" are doing the same thing, only they aren't talking about it out loud. Data is the new "wealth" and we know what human greed is all about!

But that we will not think now how google is ONLY bad , I think every with AI including Apple and Microsoft doing and doing similar things, for me personally is not so important if someone follow my activity just fir give me better advertising for buy something but what if that data will be used one day in future against me?
So remember next, they follow what you talking near your phone and on your phone, is everyone can check that if yes or not , everyone can analyze that
This is why google does no need cookies anymore

But do they get it right?

Why do they report "duplicate without user selected canonical" when canonical is indeed declared?

Why do they report "duplicate without user selected canonical" when the page is a PDF?

Digital surveillance and social manipulation is everywhere, not just through Chrome, and not just for information control over advertising or commercial use. It’s also State and geo political. And its building fast.

For what purpose and intent it is used, and by who and how are the big concerns.

AI is just one huge by product of interaction with these surveillance tools to control the masses. Hopefully good will prevail over greed and evil.

There's a lot of smart folks around here with this kind of understanding, and, unlike the general population, we get it. We can make the changes to limit the tracking, all without wearing a tin foil hat.

I wish I could find the original research that highlighted the phone home signals for Chrome. I'll post it if I find it.

In the meantime, remember some of the AI-powered things coming to a browser. [webmasterworld.com...]

I get ads on my computer for esoteric products that my wife was researching on her Chromebook. One would think that Google could tell one user from another (even in the same household) if they're using different devices and are signed into different accounts.

even in the same household

My wife uses a different computer and has a different MAC address (wifi as opposed to LAN). She watches Facebook reels of other artists. Now I all see in my FB reels are examples of how to splash paint and call it art!

I doubt if anyone will get it right. Targeted advertising is all about showing ads for things that you have already purchased.

It's crazy how even using different devices, I still get ads for things my wife looks up. It feels like there's no escaping the tracking anymore.
