Hi all, my friends website is <snip>. It is ranking for some good search volume keywords under top 3 rankings on first page of Google USA. Last month 14K impressions we got but we are not getting clicks.

Please suggest the things to do to get clicks in good number..

Regards

the previous sentence explains:

g is constantly changing the algo, presentation, and ranking. Hard to say why things change that drastically. There is a new core update rolling out now. Some clues about what it does but nothing definitive is really known.

Take a close look at the description displayed on the SERPs. Does it appeal to the target audience?

Ok, I'll rise to the bait!

Precisely what is their "click", your "click", my "click", in fact anyone's "click"?

Is this "click" a follow-through to an enquiry, an order, an advertising banner, what is this "click"?

When I used to use AdSense a "click" for me was an earning's click and could be measured financially, what "clicks" are being referred to?

Do I assume 14K impressions are 14K page views or are these 14K impressions mostly bots including real page views?

@RedBar - I get the idea that the 14K impressions are what is listed in GSC, but like you, I am guessing. The context is not real clear.

Aha, impressions in GSC ... I've never used that product however, I'm guessing at this, would this be similar to something like Statcounter that tries to eliminate bot activity unlike actual logs that has everything and depending on the programme used usually displays "all" activity? Yes, I am aware Statcounter is javascript driven and that if someone has their device not to be tracked Statcounter obeys this.

However this still leaves me perplexed, let's say it's 14K GSC impressions, what clicks are they seeking?

I agree, there's not enough info to help without guessing. Perhaps the op will come back and explain more.

No, it is Google Search Console, where you register your domain with Google and submit your sitemap - used to be called Google Webmaster Tools. They have various measurements to show you how your site is performing and one measure lists the number of times your site showed up in search results for a given term. Those are the Impressions. They do not list 'clicks', for that they would need to look at their logs or install a stats script. But again, I am guessing.

Ok, now I understand, the page(s) are being delivered / shown in the SERPs for a specific search yet the OP does not feel that they are getting enough click thrus for the 14k impressions ... Perhaps the OP could confirm this?

An added question, is there an average of impressions to actual page views / visits or, I assume, this is a huge variable?

Think he's saying 14k impressions, top 3 SERPs, no clicks.

Top 3 serps could mean you display under AI, under 4-5 ads, some carousels, 'people also ask' yadda yadda.

Google's aim is zero click search results. They rip off content then keep you on their domain with "people also ask" which rips off even more content. They are no longer a search engine to find websites, they are an answer engine. Yes, we can rank top 3 in SERPs and get zero clicks. It will only get worse

@OldFaces, I think you said it right, Google is becoming an answer engine, this is all because of ChatGPT's 'invasion' into the industry backed by Google's only competitor, Microsoft.

But, at the same time, Google relies on web publishers to bring them revenue via their ads so I am not sure if making people stay on their homepage, even if they click the ads on the search, that is a fraction on the total amount of ads that are clicked through their adsense program on websites and mobile apps.
