Google is to change how it displays HowTo and FAQ rich results by changing the criteria for the display of this structured data.
Essentially, if you're not a Government, healthcare, or a "well-known, authoritative site it won't show the FAQ data.

The HowTo (structured data) rich results will only be shown for desktop users, not mobile.
Note that with mobile indexing, Google indexes the mobile version of a website as the basis for indexing: to have How-To rich results shown on desktop, the mobile version of your website must include the appropriate markup.

For both of these items, you may also notice this change in the Search Console reporting for your website. In particular, this will be visible in the metrics shown for FAQ and How-To search appearances in the performance report, and in the number of impressions reported in the appropriate enhancement reports. This change does not affect the number of items reported in the enhancement reports. The search appearances, and the reports, will remain in Search Console for the time being.

This update is rolling out globally, in all languages and countries, over the course of the next week.

I think that is a good move, rather than just showing an answer from a site that might benefit from the traffic with a more detailed answer. It beats just showing your answers without the visits.

the reports, will remain in Search Console for the time being.

This suggest the reporting will be there in the near future...

Although I can see the benefits of getting a click rather than just showing an answer..I can't help but think this is all to benefit BARD or whatever the generative Ai system will be called..

While it can potentially limit the exposure of small websites or those outside of these categories, it will enhance the user experience in general. It surely is an amazing step taken by Google to prioritize authentic sources of information.

As G stated "it won't show the FAQ for other sites regularly", do you think that there is still a chance for other sites to get the FAQ displayed - at least then in a "not regular" manner? We we're just working on implementing an FAQ section to our site. I mean the content itself will still be useful, but do you guys think that there is any reason to also implement the structured data to the new FAQs?

We are switching some of ours to HowTo schema so at least it will show on desktop now and again

Its been a month since they announced it, but Im still seeing a lot of FAQ snippets being shown just as there were before. What are your observations on that topic?
