I recently started a finanacial website that is taking forever to grow! its been a year and ive created tons of good articles, with keyword research and promoted the heck out of them. I also got some great backlinks and did a Flippa guest post. I am currently at a DA of 8 however I only have 250 visitors a month! I cannot figure out why growth has been THIS slow.

Anyway, there is another site i am considering buying in a similar niche with good traffic and making 1600 a month with a DA of 33 and a bunch of ranking articles and 20K visitors a month - though its had a MEGA drop in traffic and earnings recently due to neglect - though for 50K its expensive for its revenue! almost 2.6X!

I could either buy this site and grow it with content and affiliates, or I could buy it and maybe transfer all the assets to my newbie site (though I am unfamiliar with that process and it sounds like an expensive nightmare).

What are your thoughts? Do you think its a good purchase? Do you think i should run separately or integrate into <snip> my original website?

Thanks

Hi Lej8 and welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

The Mega drop in traffic and earnings might have been influenced by neglect but Google recently devalued a high number of financial niche (and other niches as well) sites. You would not know for certain whether that DA might ever help your own goals. A one year old domain would just about need to be written by a well known authority to do better than you have done.

My view - I'd give the 50K offer a pass and work to become better known yourself - that part of the deal is not transferred with a sale.

I would buy the site to keep the name, urls, rankings, search results positions, etc., considering there is a safe process taking place.

I'm highly doubtful of financial sites, any mention of their success, or claims about making X amounts of money. There are lots of false claims out there, specially among this niche. In fact (not to be taken personally), there are lots of threads where people talk about some site they want to buy, but in fact it's theirs, and it's something they want to sell.

A lot of your poor growth will depend on how topically relevant your articles were to each other and how well they were internally linked.

If you took a scattergun approach to your content without mapping it out first then it’s gonna take a while (if it pulls any traffic at all).

Start by building out topically relevant content around long-tail search terms, carefully internally linked together using semantically related terms, and link through to relevant, high value money pages, too.

Tiered link building is still working like gangbusters for me, but that’s a separate issue.
