Is Google under pressure to feature Youtube videos in SERPs?

According to Youtube there are roughly 720,000 hours of video uploaded to Youtube every day and 90% of the videos will receive fewer than 1000 views. That's a lot of new content every single day, and a lot of Youtubers wanting to get paid for their efforts.

In my niche there wasn't suddenly a huge increase in number of QUALITY videos but there was a huge increase in videos appearing in SERPs after a recent search update.

Just a preference trend or is pressure to keep the videos coming, which means paying creators, playing a role in drawing more attention from Google search and sending it to Google's Youtube? I wouldn't even know where to look to find evidence of either.

I think it's more likely that Google is simply responding to user demand. For many searches, a video can be a useful result (even I, an aging video luddite, find YouTube videos helpful for things like repairs, cooking, train reviews, etc.)

It would be nice if Google offered a cutter-free "Web Pages" SERP in the same way that it offers SERPs for images, videos, maps, and news. Maybe Google's testing suggests that searchers wouldn't be interested? Beats me, but I certainly would welcome that option.

Bing has had featured videos for quite some time, so you could say that Google has decided to copy Bing.

Video views on YouTube also drive ad revenues, so it's a smart money-making move by the company.

I watched someone using Google on their mobile (with their permission) and they pretty much just clicked the first result. There wasn't a lot of scrolling.

From a personal perspective, i'd also prefer a less cluttered SERPs.

Another smart move would be to have display ads on non-commercial SERPs. I'm surprised that Google hasn't gone that route by now, given the overwhelming presence of ads on commercial search results. It's not as if Google were shy about in-your-face advertising.

Youtubers wanting to get paid for their efforts.

Define "efforts"?

Most of "new" videos are :

- movies, violating copyrights, and being taken down more or less quickly, and then being re-posted,
- movie trailers are republished on thousands of accounts,
- guys filming themselves, sharing random empty thoughts, telling what they ate, what they'll wear to go out to eat,...
- fake docu, made of videos and images taken from others, and with a text readout loud, by a synthetic voidce, text often being Wikipedia article
- guys unboxing their latest purchase, or items they received free in exchange of the video,

Then you have the millions of tutorials, some might rely on a little bit of effort, but 95% of them are just an agitated guy repeating what he saw in others videos, and making it look like he invented it.

And finally, yes, you have 1% which are videos resulting of a real effort, work and researche. These, do not need to appear in the SERP to get known and popular.

So I don't believe Youtubers are pressuring Google to appear in the SERP...

Both are the Different Search engine
Google owns YouTube, they are different parts of the same search engine. Google shows videos on search because it is profitable for them.

Youtube videos annoy me so much, they are a chore to watch. So many ads, ads you can't skip, content creators babbling on about how you should subscribe and like alongside which business / service is sponsoring their videos and skipping through the videos to certain points to try find the info you actually want seems to trigger even more ads. I try to avoid them unless absolutely necessary. They are useful (but annoying) if you want to actually SEE how something is done, I prefer text so I can scan to find what I'm looking for and its usually faster.

I don't really mind the increased number of vids, then again I run ad and script blockers ON MY PERSONAL browser.

YMMV

Meanwhile, I suspect that the general audience is getting hammered much like ^^^ above and one of two things will happen: clicks on those serps will disappear, or more ad blockers will get installed.

Is Google under pressure to feature Youtube videos in SERPs?

I don't know about others, but the ads I see displayed in these videos are mostly from Big Pharma companies. With that in mind, YouTube videos in the SERPS is a great way for Google to push Big Pharma drugs on us and our kids. Big Pharma has deep pockets, so I'm sure they don't really care who sees their ads since they will just jack up the price of their drugs and make patients pay for it all.

Could be that Big Pharma (after suspending all ads on Twitter post Musk) might be pressuring g to make up the exposure?

WHO KNOWS? !

Different folks are distracted by different serps, some video, some text, and g appears to be trying to cover all the bases ... with the benefit that yt is their product, so why not? Keeping users on their product(s) is what we ALL try to do in our everyday webmastering.
