I did a Google search today on steak and kidney pie for our meal tomorrow and not only saw ads at the top of the SERPS but also one at the bottom. Anyone else seen that (UK based)?

We normally don't discuss specific search terms - but in this case we'll allow it to have a base for discussion.
I went to google.co.uk and I don't see a single ad for this search - so I think we're going to depend on our UK users to corroborate.

Maybe they're testing it. After a while users tend to ignore the ad section so they probably need to change it.

No ads anywhere ( top or bottom ) for me .. prefer steak and ale myself. Bit odd, no ads at all...

Searches for variants like 'steak pie' and 'steak and kidney' bought up ads to the right, but still nothing on the bottom.
As nomis5 have 1000+ posts I'm going to assume that they're not getting confused with related searches...

Just seen ads at the top and bottom for a completely different search on google.co.uk using firefox.
The same search in IE just gives one ad down the side.

No ads for me (UK) on that term. Tried the name of my own site and had a single ad in the right hand column, map entries came up between numbers 5 and 6 and a news item at the bottom. Looks as if they are playing around with layouts.

Searches on an ipad often have ads both top and bottom

Tried again on "steak and kidney pie" and had one ad in the right hand column and photo results part way down the page. Same machine using same fixed connection.
On my own site I have found that occasional slight adjustments to ad layout help prevent ad blindness, I imagine that G are doing the same by varying the layout of the SERPS.

No, it definitely wasn't related searches, it was a paid for result at the bottom of the page with that ever paler background.
And looking again today it's gone - nothing top or bottom.
