Do pages on squidoo, hubpages, etc help with backlinks?

Quick question... Is it beneficial to take advantage of sites like Hubpages, Wordpress, Webs, etc and build pages while adding inbound links to your main website?

Quick answer: Yes.

Those links will have value only if those pages are deemed to have value by search engines. If you build an orphan page and link from it to your site, it won't help you.
