I will not reveal the exact issue but a similar one....
1) User checks that he has NO COOKIES!
2) User goes to google.com
3) User searches the term of a "major retailer" (EXAMPLE ONLY)
4) WITHOUT CLICKING ON ANY SEARCH RESULTS RETURNED, User then checks cookies, and oh my god, not only does he have the usual cookie from google.com, but he has *TWO* additional new cookies and they come from that "major retailer . com"........
So, it seems Google is putting cookies on user's computers from third party companies after they perform a search related to the company (WITHOUT CLICKING ON THE SHOPPING COMPANY OR ANY OTHER RETURNED LISTINGS...)!!

Firefox has an "ask before accepting cookies" for people who don't trust cookies. I always turn it on -- it gives a lot of information that stupid sleazoid webmasters would rather you not know. I don't use the prefetch (it's not intended for slow internet connections), but it strikes me that the combination of the two would give even more information that even slightly less stupid sleazoid doorway-spammers don't want you to know.
