If we remain silent, they will just keep taking more and more away. In 2010 I was doing a solid six figures on one totally original content site alone. Once their digital theft kicked in, that slowly (within a decade) dropped to under 10k /year. It was like a fat kid with his insatiable hand in the candy jar, now they want any remaining crumbs. I know their mission, it was promoted by their malevolent benefactor. I'd gladly jump on a class action lawsuit if it meant justice would be served, but when you throw a 2 billion dollar settlement at them, it's nothing but pocket change and won't stop this looting. Seeing all the parallels yet?
The bottom line is that sure, you can be an online creator, but the 800 lb gorilla is going to take its cut, which is now about 99.5% in my niche.
Social media is just as bad. They have turned an exercise in diminishing returns into an exercise in futility, and that brings them joy. We need a major change and a total purge of their monopoly. Perhaps we need to start a new thread and a new effort. Through their own greed, they are turning our creative efforts into a new direction and our lives to perhaps a new purpose. It's Christmas Eve 2021, and so far, a twenty-year record low week. Christmas was stolen by the Mountain View Grinch...again. [considertheconsumer.com...]

I have a somewhat similar story to samwest and have seen Google year after year chip away at my income.

I didn't know that about Youtube but in no way surprised and Youtube content creators should expect much more from the "friendly giant".

I am in no way an expert in how to fix any of this but its shocking how much control the Government has allowed a company like Google to take over. They are holding everyone hostage and most people do not even realize it.

Every industry of a certain size should have at least 3 major players. This competition spurs innovation and in part forces them, to play fair with their customers else they move to the other guy. In other industries it would also help prevent things like the Chip shortage we are experiencing now

@samwest I would also join a class action, but, unfortunately I lack the expertise to start such an endeavor and it seems that the lawyers don't really see a case here, otherwise they wouldn't miss the chance if there was really blood in the water.
