Google is facing another antitrust suit this time from the Daily Mail's owner, Associated Newspapers Ltd., and its U.S. division, Mail Media Inc., where it alleges Google linked its search engine and ad-sales platform to put pressure on publishers, thereby abusing its market position.
The Daily Mail’s owner filed an antitrust suit against Alphabet Inc.’s GOOG -0.46% Google on Tuesday, alleging the tech giant manipulates search results and advertising auctions in ways that harm online publishers.

The suit, filed in Manhattan federal court, alleges that Google punishes publishers in search rankings if they don’t sell enough advertising space through Google’s marketplace.

Never. No reputable advertising agency would do that. Especially one with 'Do No Evil' as it's motto. Oh, hang on .........

<sarcasm>Must be true since the Daily Mail is known for its pristine journalistic reputation. They have never spread outlandish & inaccurate stories. Probably a conspiracy since Wikipedia & universities have already banned the Daily Mail.</sarcasm>

Long, long ago, an article in the Washington Monthly opened something like this: “In Florida, the doctors and the trial lawyers--two groups that richly deserve each other--” ...

Gosh. Can’t imagine how that happened to pop into my head. Carry on.

Hasn't Google already been found guilty of rigging the advertising auctions? Of course that was a 'mistake' so doesn't count.

They are hardly alone in this.

"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story" has been a journalistic motto ever since Livy and Tacitus first picked up their quills.

Nevertheless they are taking on an incredibly wealthy business so they must realise that if they lose their case the costs will be horrendous. They must be either sure of their facts or foolhardy.

DMG media is not as big as Google, but its not small fry either. Although the article calls them "the owner of the Daily Mail", they also own Metro, inews, This is Money, and the New Scientist, and they make about as much money from B2B (insurance risk modelling, property information and even management) as they do from the consumer media business.
