A good article [nytimes.com] from the NY times just came out.

...said it consists of more than 54,000 servers designed by Google engineers from basic components. It contains about 100,000 processors and 261,000 disks,

Recently, Mr. Page, a 30-year-old software designer, sought to declare the company's newest office building off-limits to telephones, under the belief that it would improve programmer productivity. He almost succeeded. He relented just a week before the building was to open, when someone pointed out that the law required a phone in the elevator. The building now has a phone system.

...executives have privately told the board that revenue will soar from less than $300 million in 2002 to $750 million or more this year, with gross profit margins of 30 percent...

So that explains why the new office building has been nicknamed, the MoneyPlex.

One very important point Google is a local & global player.
US down - Europe up - east stagnent = growth.
US up - Europe down - east sluggish = growth....etc
Sitting in the UK for example war is not off puting to travel just switche the habit slightly.....Germany, France etc. have more than 30 days hol's to spend (somewhere)... money getting tighter, so even more people switch to the net.....
I've just grown a UK travel site in 5 month from 0 to 50K/ month just using content, SERPS & ADwords.
So there is plenty of scope and I hope G stays on course.

Some very very stimulating numbers. Google has done a good job for itself. The server numbers is what gets me going, that is a ship-load of computers doing data transactions. I'd like to meet the person who designed the sctructuring of the computers how they do what they do when they do what they do. :D

Not necessarilly.

The google main database works well with original unqiue content info sites. Their algo, and really anybody's algo that uses link pop, anchor text and on page analysis just does not work with highly competitive commercial areas where really there is very little difference between the actual products/services being sold and the companies selling them or "online ads". Thats where Adwords comes in as continually improving ways to reduce spam and 100% 'online ads' in the main index will increase the position of info sites and force many commercial site owners to use Adwords.

Its very clear that highly commercial SERPs are badly spammed out, as they are in almost all search engines that use similar algos. Higher ranking is almost 100% dependent on SEO AND SEO "tricks". That does not produce necessarilly the best ranking in these categories.

It is really only a matter of time. Part of it is a change of culture, as advertisers AND browsers really start to understand that the Adwords is a much better "algo" for ranking commercial sites and online ads. Therefore if people are looking to buy something they will usually use Adwords first. We are seeing that with much better closures from visits from Adwords than visits from Google "proper".

So following this reasoning, the better the main Google index, the more reason for advertisers to use Adwords!
