The WSJ is reporting that Google is to move into providing checking accounts to consumers next year, and it's dubbed project "Cache."

I do not trust these tech companies with what information they gather just from using the internet. Why would I trust them with my financial information. Besides, I do not think it wise to put too many eggs in one basket.

There are already plenty of banks, most offering free internet banking.

I wonder what G plan to bring to the table that is new?

More, I wonder how the heck they can do it in the first place?

And we have already had congress deal with check cashing, savings and loan, and other financial entities which are not BANKS.

G may have a lot in the bank(s), but they are NOT Federally licensed and this announcement worries more than a little bit!

A little more research into this report reveals that g is ONCE AGAIN positioning itself as the MIDDLE MAN ... taking a cut out of FACILITATING a transaction. Just as it does for ad servicing.

Either

Brilliant!

Or

Beware!

Why? Recently my apartments ceased to accept payments direct. I have to pay a third party ... third party? Yes, I have to pay my bank for processing the transaction, the landlord has a charge for the service, and now there is a THIRD party that also processes the transaction and charges for that service, too. So I am now stuck with two service transactions instead of the original one...

And if G can get their hands on that "second transaction" that's gravy.
