Google's chief executive officer and co-founders are taking a page out of Apple CEO Steve Jobs' book: they are now being paid just $1 as an annual salary.

According to the search engine's latest proxy statement, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Friday, Google CEO Eric Schmidt and co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin requested during the second quarter of 2004 that their salaries be reduced to $1.

Let's thank the PR machine's for this one. With this attitude they'll never make it past Warren or Bill on the F500 list. How can they afford to eat, they're only worth several billion.

I've heard of any number of "dollar a year" men in my 59 years.
The vast majority were just full of it, I hope the G people are the exception. -Larry

OK, so for me this pretty much means nothing - oh it does me something actually. It means that they now have so much money that they don't know what to do with it and they know if they earn more money there is more taxes to be paid.

Stupid... The interest they are earning on their current money alone would be a lot more than any salary they would get, and by doing this they are just pleasing the public who think they are working "free". Yeah right!

Did they also agree to no health benefits, company cars, expenses etc?

I'd take a $1 salary as well after cashing out my stock and showing I don't have faith in my own company.
