Now that Google owns the first page of results on any keyphrase heavily laden with their own content, even medium and large businesses have the difficult choice to either pay to play, or miss out. Small businesses are at an even bigger loss often lacking the budget to pay to be seen. Regardless of your politics, we should all be concerned about this unchecked power. The EU is paying attention. When will the US start paying attention?

As others keep saying, there's nothing to see here. It's just the nature of search.

Until the USA gets some like Margrethe Vestager, whose search history cannot be used to influence policy, no-one is going to really delve into G..
Small business do not have the money to pay lobbyists, nor to make the kind of campaign donations that make politicians do anything other than listen to them , and then forget them when they are on the golf course with the movers and shakers of wall st and silicon valley.

Spotted a question similar to my search posted on a forum in the first page of results recently. No need to visit the forum - I could just scroll through the answers on the search page. I found my answer without ever visiting the source page.

I think Google will drive legislation - that sort of thing is neither fair nor sustainable!
