Google's News Initiative is launching Access to Tools, which is a new project devised to bring the skills and techniques available through a suite of applications and tools for local newsrooms, independent news media, and will be run by the Centre for Investigative Journalism around the UK from September 2018 to January 2019.

The workshops will be held in cities around the UK: in the Midlands, in the South West, the South East, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We had a discussion a few months back about Google allowing news stories to be posted by independent sources. I assume these are the tools to facilitate that.

Yet another centralized news filter. File this under "beware what you ask for". Or

Follow the money.

I think of this like the Google balloon initiative. Just out of the goodness of their collective hearts. They just simply want a better planet with free things and internet for all with news that is better than ever before. Revenue and PR has zero, zilch to do with any of these glorious initiatives.
