Uber’s latest hire has a storied and accomplished history in Silicon Valley – Amit Singhal, former Senior Vice President of Search and employee number 176 at Google, has joined the ride-hailing company as SVP of Engineering.

Singhal will be heading up the Maps and Marketplace departments at Uber, while also advising CEO Travis Kalanick and Uber VP of Engineering and Otto co-founder Anthony Levandowski on their efforts to build out the company’s self-driving technology. Hope the people using Uber continue to get to where they want to go rather than where "Goober" thinks they should want to go.

It seems his tenure didn't last long.

Amit Singhal has left his job at Uber as its SVP of engineering because he did not disclose to the car-hailing company that he left Google a year earlier after top executives there informed him of an allegation of sexual harassment from an employee that an internal investigation had found “credible.”

Singhal was asked to resign by Uber CEO Travis Kalanick this morning. Uber’s SVP of engineering is out [recode.net]
In a statement to me, Singhal denied the allegation again, although he did acknowledge the dispute with Google.

It seems Uber's in the middle of it right now.

Bad way for his career in Google to end. Recode doesn't pull its punches.

engine, every time I see the topic title (“takes on”) I have to stop and figure out whether they’ve hired him ... or engaged in a public battle with him :(

Or is it both?
