Google have picked up the baton in response to Rupert Murdoch's open letter to the EU.

Last week, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp sent an open letter to the European Commission complaining about Google. We wanted to share our perspective so you can judge the arguments on their merits. Dear Rupert... [googlepolicyeurope.blogspot.com]
News Corp:
Google’s “power” makes it hard for people to “access information independently and meaningfully.” Google is “willing to exploit [its] dominant market position to stifle competition.”

Google:
With the Internet, people enjoy greater choice than ever before -- and because the competition is just one click away online, barriers to switching are very, very low. Google is of course very popular in Europe, but we are not the gatekeeper to the web, as some claim.

Google’s “power” makes it hard for people to “access information independently and meaningfully.”

Obvious nonsense from Mr Murdoch.

Perhaps he only looks at page 3 of the results.

I'd like to see the EU take a tougher approach to Rupert Murdoch. :-)

Google and privacy in the same sentence .... incongruous.

Murdoch preaching to "anyone" on privacy .... priceless!

murdoch is like a pantomime villian that everyone is happy to bash, but he never had a virtual monopoly like Google has (in Europe, at least).
If Murdoch had 90% of the TV share, then he could have turned around and used exactly the same argument as Google, that the competition is only one click away (on the TV remote). Everyone would soon be up in arms about that though. why do we tolerate it when it's google?

I don't think we should tolerate it, but Rupert Murdoch is hardly one to complain about privacy in light of the phone hacking scandal.
