Google is close to signing a lease in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood, about a block away from Apple.
The search giant is eyeing 131 Greene St., a roughly 4,100 square foot space, Crain's New York reports (via 9to5Google). Other nearby tenants include Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, Tiffany & Co., and Louis Vuitton.
This would be Google's first-ever retail store. Until now, Google has relied on small stations inside retailers like Best buy to promote its Nexus and Chromebook products.
not being a New Yorker, my first thought when seeing the location-pictures was, where is the parking?
then, what will they charge for top ten search results?
then, who is going to hurry and put in a bagle/coffee shop right next door?
then,........ will the google-bus protestors block the whole street? :)

Will the retail workers also get 20% of their time to spand on outside projects, as well as the other Google perks?
Will all the workers wear Google Glass and greet all customers by name? I see all kinds of fun with this. Employee: Good afternoon <enable facial recognition on current subject>... Tom! <run purchase history on current subject>... I see that you bought a tablet 2 years ago, so I'm guessing you're here for an upgrade? <run usage query on current subject>... Based on your usage over the past 2 years our search algorithm suggests several replacement devices for you. <run credit check on current subject>... Based on your current credit, we can offer free finacning for 90 days!" Tom: "Uh, sorry. I thought this was the Apple store..." Employee: "No problem. <enable Google blacklist on current subject>... Have a nice day!"
