Does Google watch my address bar?

When I'm on Google performing a search Google is adjusting for every key I enter into the search box. I was just curious if anyone has looked into how this is being done and if Google is also reading what I type into my address bar if I leave by visiting another site manually.

you can turn it off in your search settings but you'll need to be logged in or at least keep a cookie for that to work.

it's been live since september, 2010.

Google owns the search box. It doesn't own your browser. Well, maybe if you use chrome.

Ever looked at the html of a google dot com search page? Aside from the minified css, it's nothing but javascript as far as the eye can see. Someone might enjoy pulling it apart.

Turn off javascript. That will stop it. Javascript is seldom useful on most web sites.
