What if we told you that during your lifetime, Google could create millions of custom maps...each one just for you?

In the past, such a notion would have been unbelievable: a map was just a map, and you got the same one for New York City, whether you were searching for the Empire State Building or the coffee shop down the street. What if, instead, you had a map that’s unique to you, always adapting to the task you want to perform right this minute?

This is what you will have with the introduction of the new Google Maps – a mapping experience that helps you find places you never would have thought to search for. Google Makes Maps Personal [google-latlong.blogspot.co.uk]

I guess nobody told them. With the introduction of block-by-block GPS directions, people no longer know how to read maps.

Besides, I'm still waiting for g### to realize that I don't live in the parking lot across the street.

At least they finally fixed the problem with one neighborhood bar where the driving directions told you to stop on an overpass instead of where the bar was a block away.

Alcohol and bad Google maps directions can be a bad combination :)

Mmwell, depends on whether they were telling people how to get to the bar or how to get home. If you can't find a bar that's a block away, it is possible you don't need it ;)

If it's anything like their "improved" iOS app, I'll have a hard time being interested.

Am I the only one who get's the feeling that all recent Facebook and Google "services" are not really useful but only a pretext to collecting more information about people?

Like this Facebook "trusted contacts" function to get back in facebook after loosing a password. Pretty stupid way for a password reset, great way for Facebook to get to know you better.

Same with Google constantly asking for my cell phone number.

Perhaps, G### are waiting for you to move to the parking lot across the street. :)

You live in CA..

They figure that with seismic activity taken into account..your co-ordinates will eventually match those of the parking lot ( which is currently ) across the street..

Predictive maps.."where do you want us to tell you you'll be at some point in the future"..and when you get there*.."Joe's ( to your left )..will have a special deal on pizzas with sugared fries and chocolate molé sauce combined with lobster sushi served on the thighs of hitherto untouched 18 year olds ( <= "we "G" know this is what you want because we have followed your searches and surfing for the past 10 years..even when you thought you were "signed out"" )..you gotta love it..

Or be a "subversive"..

*we may just nudge you multiple times to be where we want you to be..either physically..psychologically..morally..or otherwise

"Reb pill ..or Goo pill"..the time to decide is** ...

Society gets the search engines and social media etc..that it deserves..

**Search engines, social media and religions, are all about analysing what groups of people, and individuals do and think..and as a result of this analysis, reacting to what they observe..in order to better steer and control them..search engines and social media* have become the churches, priests, shamans of the vast majority of those who no longer believe in "religion" as traditionally presented..

This does not mean that what search engines, social media etc "present" as "accurate", or "popular"..is "true"..depending upon how one defines "true"

This "interaction", is interesting to observe...

I suspect that many within G, find observing "this" as "interesting", as they find their "experiments".. "profitable"..as do/did many religions and philosophical movements, in their early days..many of their "leaders" must still be amazed at how easily "people" can be influenced and led..and how profitable such Doctrines /FUD can be

Thus..Society gets the search engines and social media etc***..that it deserves..

Of course..some are just in it for the power over huge groups of others..because after all..one can only spend so much in a lifetime..

***your input/feedback/response as to what might be included in "etc" is welcome..as a token of "thanks" have a "cookie"***

And so it goes..

The parking lot is north of me. Fault lines in this area tend to run north-south, so if my own location changed, the parking lot would almost certainly move too. But then maybe if I were looking for a parking space the GPS would tell me to drive into the credit union in the next block.

And I never lose track of my footnotes :P It was a happy day when I realized that once you're in html, you don't have to renumber the notes if you add one in the middle. All the user sees is the asterisk.
