In a rare move, this morning Google placed a large ad advertising their Nexus 7 tablet on their homepage, which is typically free of advertising.
Is this the future of Google?

For anyone to think lightly of this move is being highly ignorant. As is typical people will have their heads buried up their A until it affects them directly. As in, if Google happened to start selling something or offering a service that is similar to what you're doing. If at that point they put a nice homepage ad you might take issue. For most ignorant folks they see nothing wrong. Sure what's the big deal. It might be slightly troubling if you had a business trying to see that tablet right? Your little adwords ad isn't going to get seen is it? Again it's all about ignorance. I think of this as the trickle effect. That's it. This isn't the first homepage ad. If Google is smart they can get into products or services that don't ruffle too many feathers out there. It goes back to what I say. There is nothing in the world today that can wield unlimited power as a search engine with massive market share. It is the biggest hammer there could be. Tell me another one and I might change my mind on that take. An operating system? Sure but then again as long as you don't get too pushy with it with your own products then it's fine right? Then again what happened to M$ in the past?
The bottom line is that you can't blame Google for being the best or gaining such popularity. As Google says it's as easy as a click on a link to use a different search engine like Bing. I don't blame Google one bit. I want money as do most people. Do what you have to do to get it. The best get the money and is no different with them promoting their own stuff on their home page. If people don't mind and keep using their search, the world has spoken. I think this ad will have the same effect as a fart in a windstorm.
