My gmail dashboard has a message saying "Gmail can import your old Yahoo! emails" with an import button beside the message. It appears across the top of the page with a yellow background. Is this legit?

How does Gmail have access to Yahoo emails? Is there some sort of authorization process after I click import? I'm not wanting to press it to find out and haven't seen any literature on it yet. There is also no typical "learn more" link next to the message.

Also, the offer vanished after I read an email and returned to the dashboard and I can't seem to make it re-appear.

I saw the Y! logo pop up too the other day.

While logged into your gmail account, go to left nav > Account > Connected Accounts > Connect an account drop down menu > Select Y!

I believe that is how you do it. Haven't done it yet. Plus haven't had the desire just yet to feed the big bro more info.

I suspect it works in the same way Blackberry does: you feed it the mail account username and password (also mail server for Blackberry). This would work with any service that the targetted mail server permitted access to.

Why anyone would want to be so cavalier with their mail, I shudder to think. :)
