Blogger and Picasa aren’t going away, of course — they’re two of Google’s most popular products. Instead, according to two sources familiar with the matter, Google intends to rename Picasa “Google Photos” and Blogger will become “Google Blogs.”
...The transition from Picasa and Blogger to Google Photos and Google Blogs will occur “in a month to a month and a half,” we’ve been told. The date aligns with the likely public launch of Google+.

This is sad news and a huge huge marketing mistake. I've written many times about my personal fatigue of the Google XYZ product name. It's just boring and lame. Blogger and Picassa have a history to them and an already established brand name. Why loose all of that? Who is doing these bad decisions at G?

Yes and no. Many corporations will want one brand but then Blogger and Blogspot have been famous for quite a while so I see your point.

If hundreds of thousands of blogs are moved to a google-based domain name, what of all the links pointing to pages within those blogs (both from other blogs and from outside)?
Will Google redirect all incoming links to the new place?
