Goog Expects to add About 400k Advertisers in 3 years

expects to add 372,050 advertiser accounts by 2008, the San Francisco Chronicle reported on Wednesday. The Chronicle, citing internal documents, said the company predicts its advertiser base will grow by more than 130 percent, from 280,000 in 2004 to 652,050 in 2008.

This tells me that all of the griping about AdSense being bad for advertisers wont mean squat to Google. They are going to be begging just about any site to use AdSense because they will be in desperate need of the advertising real estate.

It does not say what country they expect these advertisers to come from. Google has been working very hard on building up non-US markets. I'd wait for clarification before thinking this is good news for existing Adsense publishers. It might be good news for potential Adsense publishers in India, Hong Kong, etc.

"We believe that the information printed detailing Google's projected advertiser customer growth is inaccurate," the company said.

GOOG just announced that they are getting nearly half of gross revenue from Adsense, but 79% of that is an expense to adsense publishers.

So I would imagine that GOOG would want to expand in more profitable areas first.

That is about the biggest BS i've heard of. Do you think there will be even 650,000 business who want to advertise on a market that cost too much as it is. Could you image the bids.

Give me a break, this is the biggest self promotion i've heard of, just enough to let me guess raise the ticker price. Ohh and what do you know up to almost $150.

I agree...these predictions seem highly inflated. Also, remember that a lot of U.S. based advertisers limit their ad spending through Adwords to the U.S. only. Why would the great majority of American companies waste their ad dollars on ads in Hong Kong and India? Remember, when you sign up for as an AdWords advertiser you get to choose the territories the ads will be shown. I used to choose all of the English speaking countries, and after a while I realized it was a waste of money because all of my sales came from the U.S.

There's certainly a lot more potential for attracting AdWords advertisers.

How many domains are registered? It has to be getting close to 100 million now. Even 1% of that would be 1 million customers.

There are about 25 million small businesses in the US. If 5% of them advertised on Google AdWords, that's 1.25 million customers.

Affiliate programs are another big source for potential advertisers. I've seen estimates that there are up to 30 million affiliates. If 5% of them advertised on Google Adwords, that's 1.5 million customers.

The bulk of these 25 Million businesses are Sole Proprietorships including nannies and close to a Million direct sales ventures such as Amway and Mary Kay Cosmetics. Also 80% of the businesses have no employees(sole proprietorships) and only make up only 2% of the total business revenues. While the rest of the businesses who have employees, account for 98% of the total business revenues.

So I think that you can really count of 20 Million of these business, that leaves 5 Million businesses who might have the captial, the need and the personel to do it.

I havn't too many new 'players' in the industries that I watch over the past 2 years. Virtually none would be a better statement.

Another factor is that local search has the potential to become HUGE. More and more people are searching online rather than letting "their fingers do the walking" (printed Yellow Pages). How many customers does the Yellow Pages have? They're all potential AdWords customers.
