a new website translator gadget powered by Google Translate that enables you to make your site's content available in 51 languages. Now, when people visit your page, if their language (as determined by their browser settings) is different than the language of your page, they'll be prompted to automatically translate the page into their own language. If the visitor's language is the same as the language of your page, no translation banner will appear.
If I want to view content in a different language, I'll sort it out myself.
If I want to visit your .com site, it's because I didn't want to choose the .fr - don't second guess me.
Don't bother me with prompts, pop-ups and banners, or I'll leave!

It's nothing to do with us multi-lingual site owners ..( when that happens )..it's goog arrogance ..has been going on for years ..and now they are going to force their crappy machine trans of our sites on us ?..
I already translate my own pages accurately ..they can keep their slimy hands off ..( or they are breaking the law ) and I'm not going to add proprietary tags to opt out ..my site is my copyright in all languages ..and I and only I can authorise translations ( and unless GOOG can produce my authorisations in writing and signed by me ) ..offenders, GOOG included will be taken to court ..in my country ..

You obviously didn't read the information at the Google Blog. They are not going to force you to do anything. This is an opt in service for those that want it.
It's easy to install — all you have to do is cut and paste a short snippet into your webpage to increase the global reach of your blog or website.
For a world wide site like ours I can see it as an advantage. We already get many people using the "translate this page" feature of the various services.
And no it doesnt help my business that google does this without my permission ..and the surfer who inputs my URL into GOOG's "tool" doesnt have my permission to do so ..and GOOG knows that they legally need my permission to translate and present my text wether the translation is done by their machine or a human working for them ..they know that unauthorised translation is illegal ..and is not even remotely covered by their status as an ISP .. ..nor is it opt out ..
and they have been doing that for years ..
