And I don't mean a Google version of MySpace.

After the successful launch and put on orbit of Elon Musk's rocket, isn't it time Google should get into the space business too?

Are they getting 'too risk-averse' or what? Have they lost the adventurous ways that got them in the place they are today?

They are not a private company anymore - Google board of directors have a fiduciary duty to act in the interest of shareholders to increase shareholder value - this sort of completely irrelevant investments can land execs in jail. As the share prices fall the pressure from shareholders to focus on core activities that make money would only increase.
