I was just having an interesting conversation about the state of the US economy with a few fellow WebmasterWorlders. The question came up, Is a share of GOOG worth more than an ounce of Gold?

Gold is trading this morning at $836 an ounce.

Gold is up, Oil is up, the US dollar is down, and the US economy for the most part is down. The good news is this is the time the Online Marketers can shine! (Hence the price of Google stock)

they mine more gold every day and it doesnt look like google is going to split so you could make a case that google stock has a rarity factor to it :)

the rarity of google stock is an artifice.
gold has inherently valuable properties.

google stock didn't exist in previous centuries.
gold has always been and will always be valuable.

technology is a bitch - one of time's arrows.
gold will always be gold.

Interesting viewpoint.

Gold does probably not have the same "growth story" attached like Google does. Once the Bubble 2.0 bursts, Google will be a lot less worth that gold.

Gold is a good long-term investment; Google might be an interesting short-term investment.
