Apple Computer elected Google chief executive officer Eric Schmidt to its board of directors in a possible harbinger of an alliance between the technology titans.

"Eric is obviously doing a terrific job as CEO of Google, and we look forward to his contributions as a member of Apples board of directors," Apple co-founder and chief executive officer Steve Jobs said in a release.

Maybe we'll get iAdsense accounts that run out of their CPC value and can't be restored without sending it back to GoogleApple HQ for a disablement of ismartpricing.

Oh the dreams, the dreams.

with the news that universal are going to offer free music downloads sponsored by advertising revenue [news.bbc.co.uk], does this mean that apple will link up with adwords to do something similar?

This is a link I didn't see coming but it makes so much more sense than everything we were predicting.

Once again Google has demonstrated a capacity for market and business innovation. Good on them.

so what if Google buys Apple?

Apple Revenue 13.93 Billion
Google Revenue 6.14 Billion

Apple Net Income 1.3 Billion
Google Net Income 1.4 Billion

Apple Assets 10.3 Billion
Google Assets 9 Billion

(2005 Figures via Google Finance [finance.google.com])

By the numbers alone, either could buy the other. However, the personalities involved would rather soundly deny the possibility.

I did wonder why Steve Jobs made such nice comments about Google being innovative, at the recent developer's conference.

Or "Aoogle," like an old-fashioned car horn.

Two great American companies with great people and great products. (And at least Apple doesn't keep its phone number a secret.)

I wish them both well.
