ValueClick own CJ and BeFree, along with having access to 100s of millions of ad impressions every month, both via premium publishers and momNpop webmasters.
would make perfect sense and give Google even more reach for their contextual product offering, especially dealing with people who understand this concept very well.

Google's biggest competitor in many ways is not Overture or Yahoo, at least from the Content Network side of things.
ValueClick has a very very powerful opportunity to bring in a lot of competition for AdSense customers.
Google would want to buy them up to keep the competition from being an issue.
However, ValueClick is no longer priced at cash (I was heavily invested in them when they were .. boy that was a big mistake to sell) and is a bit over priced right now.
Plus, anti-trust issues may be a problem. Maybe if Google's stock takes off like nuts and ValueClick is looking for an exit strategy, it'll all work out.
