In Germany msn.de returns the deyahoo2.asp page within a popup and the first two search results are:
1) Google.de (wow...)

No... actually Microsoft needs competition. They've been abusing their power for years.
You could argue that the above is further abuse. Google is emerging to compete and they don't like it - watch the depths to which they now sink to deal with the situation.

I'm looking forward to watching MS try to compete with Google using Windows Servers and the SPAM mentioned in the first thread.
Even if they do catch Google, the Justice Department will be waiting in the wings with plenty of pricey Anti-Trust litigation. I think Google has set a fine trap for Mr. Gates.
If Microsoft wants to compete with Google they have to serve the users of MSN better than Google does!
Attracting users to MSN (with questionable means...) is one thing but sooner or later those users will find they get better results by using Google. MSN won't be able to keep those users for long.
if you were to type in yahoo, it is the same thing, it does not take you to the yahoo site, it shows you the search result. So basically, explorer works as a search engine text box w/o www or .com. I do not think msn is trying to steal google traffic.

Search MSN for each of the search engine names and you get commercial plugs for MSN in SERP position #2, in most cases.
Exceptions;
Searches for Yahoo and AOL do not include MSN in the SERPS.
Search DMOZ results looks clean.

Overall, I have faith that such compromising of the results will be apparent to a public that is already cynical about anything Mr. Gates does. He won't be able to stop his operation from following the easy profit opportunities in the SE business - the ones that ruin public confidence.
you will get a page of search results from MSN anyway. Netscape does the exact same thing.
Not Mozilla. It doesn't report your badly formed URL/failed DNS lookup back to the mother ship, AFAIK.
I don't know why people are doing it but if you look at how many people search for Google on any search engine (instead of just going to google.com) it is obvious that many will do so. From stats I have seen there seem to be quite a few people just entering words in the adress bar.

The directory frame seems to be a cascading javascript menu. When you click on one of these, it removes google from the main frame and replaces it with the site you clicked on in the directory.
Microsoft will build a search engine the Microsoft way. It won't be Google it might not even be worth Microsoft's time. But you can guarantee that the next few versions of Windows will have the Microsoft search engine incorporated into the OS in some way, shape, or form. Microsoft will try an incorporate itself into everything. Soon you'll be using Microsoft light bulbs if the Redmond uber-corp has its way.
I'm getting a little off topic.
It should be very interesting to see. Microsoft has been crawling my site very slowly for almost a week now. They're either going to build a vast search engine that provides unbiased results or a Microsoft search engine. Only time will tell.
It does not happen from Mexico.

I got tired of remembering european tlds, but it seems evident that some clever jake in MSN europe's german hq decided to help his division get more searches this quarter.
on the otherhand, this could be a new feature they are beta testing ;)
Due to the default search behaviour of the your IE Browser.
If you want to use Address Bar as search box, all what you need to do is
1) Click on Search Button on your web browser.
2) You will notice that there is a option to "Customize" your search - click on it.
3) When you click on "Customize" or "Custom" search option, a new windo will popup and under that window look at the bottom - you will see another button that reads "Auto Search Settings"
4) Using the drop down option, you will be able to select any search engine of your choice, and you can just type in any keyword in address bar and you will notice that address bar will work at search field within google or any other tool bar.
I am using Google as my search option for address bar, so when I type in google I get [google.com...]

Now there is a little trick here If you plan to search for keywords like search engine positioning/placement/optimization, you might actually wanna type in search search engine positioning or search search engine optimization in the address bar. Cuz first search is kinda considered as a search command. You are not required to type in "search" before any search, however if you search term's first word is "search" then you need to use it twice.

I think MSN is going to go after Google hard very soon. Overture (OVER) just took a huge loss today of -30%. It is ripe for acquisition and MSN will buy it up, that's why they're telling their customers to go to Overture from now on. It's not like Miscrosoft to tell people they don't want their money :)
I just did this. Strange, I can choose from a list of search engines but Google isn't one of them.
Then I clicked on 'Autosearch setting' and selected Google. Guesse what: my IE now uses MSN...

April 21 - MSN displays 4 pages of mine in top 8, including the first position, for my main keyword; similar results for all other keywords.
In contrast,
~April 9 - submitted to DMOZ (after a few unsuccessful attempts and after some effort to find location)
April 20 - Google Deepbot did show up and ate my pages for 3 days - did seem inefficient somewhat.
Current status - Doubt DMOZ editor is going to do a thing. Last update in that category was on March 17th. Google is going to update the index sometime next month, we all can guess when. So I just wait and wait.
It seems to me like the IE and Netscape battle, once again.
OK i click "Search" butoon on IE6 toolbar. When the sidebar comes up, it has a casino site displayed in it instead of a form.
When i click on "Customize" te customize window comes up with no form but the casino site page again!
I think ive been had! I remember visiting a casino site several months back but never used the search sidebar until now. I guess it played around with my IE.
If anybody knows how to get rid of the casino site from my search bar iid love to know, but no problem since ive never used the sidebar until now.
