i'm running win2k and just trying to set up apache server.
Everything went fine ... but when i tried to type 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1' to test the server, i get 'Page not found' error.

However, if i type my own ip address (that i got from using 'ipconfig' command), i can access the initial page. Any idea?

Also, how do i set up the apache server so that i can reach locally stored webpage via registered domain name. (so, when i type 'www.mypage.com', i want to move to a webpage on my pc.)

grunt123,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]!

Have you created "local DNS" entries in your hosts file for 'localhost' and your development domain?

The hosts file is usually in the \windows\system path. It is a plain-text file with no extension. It also contains it's own instructions if it has not been modified. If it has been modifed, you can try searching your machine for "HOSTS.SAM" - a documented sample file (note upper/lowercase differences).

oh ... this is really weird. (at least something that i don't understand.) I just got a new router (i used hub previously) and when i hook up my connection to the router, i was able to go to 'localhost' in my browser ... lol

(also, i found out that my ip address was changed ... hmph)

grunt123, it depends on your internet connection for setting up the DNS of your website, if you have a static IP (stable IP, usually broadband), you can put the IP in your domain manager, but if you have an dynamic IP (one that changes everytime you connect to the internet, usually 56K modem) I'm afraid you can't, you will have to use something like no-ip.com and I should remind you that you won't get spidered by Google.

Good luck!
