Hello,
I installed Apache 1.3.3. Everything went fine. However, now when I go to Start -> All Programs -> Apache HTTP Server. I do not see anything saying 'Control Apache Server' So I can't restart, stop, and start the server. In all the manualls I've read this has always been there. Should I reinstall?

Thanks!

What exactly is your operating system, and is it possible that the Apache startup is in the Control Panel's services menu instead (if you're on Windows) or that you can type "service apache start" or "service httpd start" if you're on Redhat/Fedora Core Linux?

Without knowing the operating system, I'd say you might as well reinstall if that's all you can do. :-)

I don't have access to my XP box at the moment (waiting for a new power supply), but if you install on Windows 2000, and you choose "Install as a service for all users," then Apache shows up in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services . If you choose the option that's something like "Install to start manually only for me" then you'll have to use the instructions to start it from the console.

In the Start/Programs/Apache area, there are only some documents and things like "configure Apache" and no binaries to start the server.

The Apache Group has Windows specific instructions here:

Running as a service:
[httpd.apache.org...]

Running manually from the console:
[httpd.apache.org...]

I'm pretty sure it's the same for XP as it is for 2000. Not positive, but pretty sure.
