Looking for definition of Mod_Alias and mod_Rewrite

I am studying the tutorial at [webmasterworld.com...] about Apache,
but I am unable to find a definition about what Mod_Alias, and Mod_Rewrite mean.

I think that the Mod, stands for Module?

What do these terms mean?

The simpler an answer the better!

Mod does mean module. All the modules are documented at apache.org, or type mod_alias or mod_rewrite into Google and you will get more information than you could ever want.
