Now it will not allow reinstall as it says apache is already on my system ..

Perhaps it is something in the Windows registry that is causing issues. Did you try using the Windows Control Panel Add/Remove Programs option?

yip .. it was removed that way... but as you say I suspect that I need to go through my registry and try and clean out what has been left behind...

I have seen a great deal of stuff relating to Legacy_

Already removed everything relating to apache, but it seems it was not enough...

Really do not want to reformat ... but I suspect it may come to that unless anyone else has an idea?

> reformat ...

No, that should not be needed at all.

Carefully check around --maybe do a local search-- for leftover files and directories. Then use regedit (only if necessary) to search for Keys named Apache. Don't forget to check the C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data -- you may find an Apache folder there, too.

Sometimes there is a directory in some odd place that still contains remnants of the old install. Find it and rename or delete it.

When I said I cleared out my reg' that is exactly what I did, search for apache and removed everything that came up...

No folders in doc/settings ... Have also searched my drive for apache, in system and hidden folders .. still nothing...

The only thing I've seen is in my reg.. which was Legacy_apache .. and a whole bunch of Legacy_ keys which I left ...
