Hi all.

I still cant get apache to work.

I have 3 computers on the home network, two wireless and 1 wired to the belkin router.

I want to be able to use the lap top when away from home to do some web programming.

I think!, I want to set up a server on the laptop so that I can program and test some dynamic pages.

I have installed apache and it is running Apache monitor says it is running, but when I go to localhost in IE6, I get "page not found", I must be doing something very basic wrong --- Help!
------
If I wanted to set one of the three main computers as the server, How would I do that, because that may be easier with the other PC.

Thanks from a very frustrared user, now if only I had XP pro I could use IIS!

Georgezx9 -

If I can do this, you can do this...

There are several "packaged" Windows Apache MySQL, PHP, Perl (WAMPP) installations out there but some don't play so well with software firewalls - especially if it runs Apache 2.X. I had this problem with McAfee and fought with it for awhile.

I've got two suggestions:

1. - Make sure the ServerRoot in your httpd.conf file is where you actually have your website.

2. - If you don't have too much time invested in this and really just want a plug and play system (and one that actually works in Windows). Then try using a package that uses Apache 1.3.X.

There are several flavors available, depending on the mySQL / php version you want to use. I've had good luck with wampserver dot com stuff. Click on the english flag in the upper left hand corner if you cannot read French.

Oh yeah, and welcome to WebmasterWorld!
