How to redirect from index.php to /?

I hope this isn't a stupid question...
I have a problem with google at the moment as it thinks my / and index.php are two different (and obviously identical) pages.
Could I just do a normal 301 redirect on this to cure the problem, or is there anything else I can put in my .htaccess file that would effect this?
I have scoured the net, but just keep coming up with the method to redirect from / to index.php!

Many thanks.

Just found it about two minutes ago thanks - (did go through the forum a few pages first but didn't see it - I must have skipped over it!)

I've just tried it but not sure how to do it correctly - I am not a developer or anything so not that good technically!

It did work after a fashion but redirected to what looks like absolute path directory rather than root (404), and I can't see what I'm doing wrong. Still trying...

Glad to hear you think it's working. If you have any trouble, post again.
