Need help with mod rewrite

I have recently had to change the majority of my url because I was adding products with the same name and my pages would only load one, so Ive added the $id to the url.

This is my old url

games/xbox_games/(.*)\.html$

this is my new url

games/id/(.*)/xbox_games/(.*).html

now, is there anyway that I can have a redirect that can pick up that variable for me, cause otherwise Im up the river on this.

no, Im wanting a rdirect from the old pages to the new pages in this question, wondering if there is any way I can do it seeing as I will be missing the variable.

The answer is certain to be here [httpd.apache.org]. Post your solution and I'm confident folks will be happy to help you refine it. (Or you could hire someone to create a solution for you with a post in the Commercial Exchange [webmasterworld.com] forum I suppose.)

I used to moderate here and our goal was to help people help themselves. By doing that in a thread, openly and interactively, many folks could participate in and benefit from the learning process. As far as I know, that policy hasn't changed.
