Website Blasted with over 4000 visits from various IP's

How do I stop this...

Hi!

Looking at my logs this morning I noticed that I had over 4000 visits from hundreds of different IP's/reffers. some reffers were identical IP's with different sites...

it's all bogus... I can't very well block every IP that was used (I'm sure it's being spoofed)

I've had a few over the last few weeks and simply blocked the IP's and that stopped.

I recently made some changes in the website that allowed me to pick up some new keywords and top the list, and I'm thinking that perhaps I pissed someone off and this is their way of saying thanks... 8-)

any suggestions that would help me stop this type of garbage would be greatly appreciated..

Terabytes - suggest you talk to your hosting company, they should have ways to block this type of thing.

If you use PHP then this thread on blocking badly-behaved bots [webmasterworld.com] will work (msg34).
