Redirecting files in .htaccess

How to change page names while redirecting

I'm sure this is a relatively simple one, but I'm lost.

There are search engine links for a number of pages on my site in the /forum/archive directory. Many of the page links are in the format /forum/archive/#*$!/xxx/xxx/xxx

The /archive directory no longer exists and I want to permanently redirect all pages, from all sub-directories of /archive to the URL mydomain.com/forum/index.php.

Can anyone please help by telling me how to achieve this in my .htaccess file.

Thanks, in anticipation.

I am sure that this is possible. I have recently been looking into .htaccess for different reasons and found this very good site.
