First, understand i'm a noob considering servers and all things related, i've installed Apache 2.0, it works fine... But i'm not sure what to do.. How do I make my server available to other people? Why doesn't the domain name I used work? Do I have to pay for a domain name for some reason?

Thanks in advance, sorry for being such a noob.

You'll need to register the domain you want to use; using a domain registrar (there are tons out there; I use domainmonger for mine, but I know plenty of folks who use dotster and are happy with them). Once you have a domain, you'll need to find someone to host it for you; this will get your hostname into DNS. Of course, in order to do all of that, you'll need an IP address (here! have some acronyms!); these are generally provided by the company hosting your server or, if you're hosting it at home, your ISP. Note that many ISPs (cable companies, DSL companies, etc) won't allow you to host a website using their service. If you're using an ISP, check their policies on this sort of thing.
