I'm very comfortable w/ Apache on Windows... but my attempt on Linux has been anything but successful... my webserver's private ip address is 192.168.1.104 ... when i enter that IP on my webserver, I can access my webpage fine - however when I attempt this on a different computer but in the same network, I can't access my webpage. I can ping the webserver from another computer.. but just can't seem to pull up a webpage.. anyone have suggestions? TIA

I am a newbe too and I am about 3 weeks into setting up my Linux server as well - a couple of hours a day.

Do you have the httpd service running on the server? Sounds obvious - but then the obvious is not so if you are new?

Seeing the web server and the test page was a breeze - getting ftp to work was a bit more problematic due to Fedora Core 3 security.

Good Luck - I'm sure that there will be a lot more posts here - these guys seem to know what they are doing!

Are you running a firewall (eg. iptables, etc.) on the web server? If you disable it, does that help? Which distribution are you using?

Thanks encyclo - if the reply was for me?

Yes - the firewall was blocking the ftp but not the webserver. I am learning slowly!

It took me a while but I worked out how to set that - If I can learn something a day I am happy.

I haven't got as far as htaccess manipulation yet - but I am a little conserned about the apparent "attacks" that I presume are aimed at MS servers that are turning up in my Apache access logs.

Any advice on this would be greatfully recieved.
