Setting up subdomain

Whenever I creat a new subdomain, I need go to cpabel to create the subdomain and set redirect for it to point to a subdirectory.

I was told you can auto creat subdomain in httd.conf etc..

I have only reseller hosting acct, access to whm and cpanel but not http.conf, how can I go ahout doing this using mod rewrite?
