Hi guys,

I haven't visited this forum for a while and since i have set up an Apache server on my computer for tempory hosting of websites etc. I am a novice at this so please excuse me for asking a 'noob' question...

What is the easiest way to put files onto my server from another computer. I have mysql and php installed if that helps. Would it be say in the form of an upload script or some other method?

Many thanks

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or maybe a CD/RW disc?

Thanks for your reply,

Disks are out of the question as the computer i am transferring from does not have a CD burner and I dont have a 3.5" floppy drive on the server computer either.

How would i go about setting up (or finding out how to set up) a ftp server for my apache server?

Thanks again

If you use a Windows box, try out stuff like Guild FTP or Cerebus all for free.

Very easy to install and set up. You define the user names and passwords for access, what they can access and whether they can read, write, delete, rename etc.

Thanks again for the prompt reply.

I am having a few problems with both the FTP programs you suggested (perhaps to do with my network configuration). Is there a suitable forum here at WebmasterWorld for discussing them programs or shall i continue in this thread?

Thanks

I like proftpd and webmin (linux). They're great for downloading and uploading stuff. :)
