Need to convince client on benefits/safety of mod_rewrite...

...for SE friendliness

I have a client who is building their site right now in PHP.

I'm trying to convince them that they should be rewriting their URLs as static-looking with mod_rewrite. They're interested, but not convinced that this isn't just a shady SEO scam technique.

They've asked to see some more info on it - independant aricles, etc.

Does anyone have some good links they could post?

Perhaps something on SE Watch, or other respected sites.

Adam_C,

The sheer number of posts about SE-friendly URLs and shopping carts here on WebmasterWorld (and elsewhere) should speak volumes. Otherwise, it seems that you may have a "trust issue" with this client. In that case, give them exactly what they ask for and move on... Don't waste additional time on them. Spend your time on clients that appreciate your skills and advice.

Maybe a reminder that they can pay you a little extra now to do it right, or they can pay you a lot more in the future to fix it would be in order. Committing to the correct approach now will save them a lot of money.

IMHO, or course,
Jim

get them to do a search for their chosen product(s) and ask them to count how many have query strings in the URL. Chance are it wont be many. Tell them there is a reason for that etc etc

No trust issues... we only met last week.

This is a new thing to them, though they are web savy, and they just want some reassurance.
