Restarting Apache Server

Help it won't come back on!

I got my server running then I was messing around with when I shut it off and now it won't come back on I keep getting an error massage saying that it shuts down when there is nothing to do. I just want to try my hand at php and its just not working for me. I'm running xp pro on a dell 2.5 and Apache 1.3 is this a good setup or should I change something. Maybe I have to do something to turn it back on. I went to my services to see my Apache server and its there and its set to come on automatically but I've started and restarted my computer and it won't come back on. Man I was so close I had it running but I had to mess with it. Anybody please help!

Replace your httpd.conf file w/the httpd.default.conf found in the same directory and try again - then add the lines from your custom httpd.conf file one by one until you see where the problem is.

you can find out what the specific (if you can call it that... as somethimes its not specfic at all) error by going to (right click) My Computer>manage>Event viewer>system

in this little puppy you will find all recent details on system error or information. This can give you a better idea to pin down whats missing or going wrong with Apache.

I tried to open the error log in its default note pad but it said the file was to large as I getting deeper into this I see that Apache 2.0 is in my files and I'm trying to run 1.3 the 2.0 isnt running and it doesn't show up in my services do you think that could be causing a conflict? Should I uninstall everything and start over? Any ideas welcome.

Ok in my computer>manage>event viewer>system there were no errors with apache but in my application there were many every time I tried to start apache there was an error and it say's The Apache.exe reported the following error >>>[warn] pid file c:/program files/apache group/apache/logs/http.pid overwritten--Unclean shutdown of previous Apache run?<<< before the error.log could be opened. Does this make any sense? I put Apache on another computer and it runs fine. That one is running xp pro too but I want to run on my html computer which is newer and faster I don't know what I did wrong I must be missing something.
