Can anyone tell me the advantages of using apache and the disadvantages against other web servers?

Advantages:
Cost (free).
Open source code.
Fewer security problems.

Apache admits to having the occasional bug and generally fixes them before you even know. M$ regularly denies that IIS has bugs even after your server has been compromised and starts launching DoS attacks on someone elses behalf.
